If you are planning on traveling outside the UK, you may need to be vaccinated against serious infectious diseases that can be found in other parts of the world.
At The Panton Practice we administer free NHS travel vaccinations to both adults and children and include the following:
- Polio (administered as part of a combined diphtheria/tetanus/polio jab)
- Typhoid
- Hepatitis A
- Cholera
The following travel vaccines are not available on the NHS and therefore you would need to contact a private travel vaccination clinic such as Boots at Castlepoint or The Nuffield Hospital:
- Hepatitis B
- Japanese encephalitis
- Meningitis
- Rabies
- Tick-borne encephalitis
- Tuberculosis (TB)
- Yellow fever
If you are unsure about which vaccinations you need for your travel. Please refer to the following resources for more information:
NaTHNaC – travelhealthpro.org.uk
Be aware that certain countries may demand proof of vaccination upon entry or exit. For instance, documentation of polio and yellow fever vaccination must be presented on an International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis (ICVP).
Submitting a request
Once you know which vaccinations you require you can submit your request by completing a SystmConnect Online Consultation. Please select Other Medical request and then Travel Clinic.
All requests should be submitted 8 weeks before you travel to ensure your immunity can build, and to ensure availability of appointments and stock ordering. This timeline is essential considering that some vaccines involve multiple doses spread over several weeks or months.
